We all should be eating more whole foods and less processed foods. While that sounds really good and all, processed foods are hard to avoid completely. It isn’t about being perfect 100% of the time, it’s about making informed, healthier choices. When it comes time to reach for processed food, it’s important to know which food additives to avoid.
Organic doesn’t mean good for you. And healthy claims on the box doesn’t mean it’s good for you either. All that really matters is what the ingredients are.
Every time we eat we are either feeding disease or preventing disease. The more whole foods we eat, the better off we are. It’s that simple. When you do reach for that box of cereal or that bag of chips, look out for these common food additives!

Food Additives to Avoid:
- Anything that says “flavor”
- Artificial Flavors
- Aspartame
- BHA, BHT
- Cane Sugar
- Caramel Color
- Carrageenan
- Corn Syrup
- Dextrose
- Erythritol
- Food dyes
- High-fructose corn syrup
- Inflammatory Oils… soybean oil, vegetable oil, canola oil, cottonseed oil
- Maltodextrin
- MSG
- Natural Flavors
- Sodium Nitrate
- Sucralose
- Yeast Extract (hidden MSG)
- The list goes on…
